Dog
The domestic canine provides remarkably consistent emotional availability. Unlike human companions, dogs do not require advance scheduling, experience mood variations only within predictable parameters, and greet their owners with identical enthusiasm whether the absence lasted eight hours or eight minutes. Studies indicate dogs demonstrate recognition-based excitement regardless of owner appearance, recent behaviour, or economic circumstances. The dog's reliability extends to functional domains: it will bark at the postman every single time without exception.
Sunset
The sunset operates with astronomical predictability. Times are published years in advance to the minute. However, visual quality varies dramatically based on atmospheric conditions, cloud cover, and geographic position. A spectacular sunset occurs perhaps 12-15% of evenings in temperate climates; the remainder range from adequate to entirely obscured. One cannot rely upon a sunset to perform on demand. It offers no guarantees, issues no refunds, and cares nothing for special occasions. The universe, it turns out, does not schedule beauty for human convenience.
