Gandalf
Gandalf's martial capabilities, whilst oft overlooked, are formidable indeed. His sword Glamdring has tasted goblin blood since the First Age, and he wields the elven blade with considerable skill. However, the wizard's physical confrontations remain deliberately restrained; Tolkien's metaphysics forbid the Istari from matching power directly against Sauron. His most celebrated combat achievement, the defeat of Durin's Bane atop Zirakzigil, required his actual death and divine resurrection. One notes with some amusement that Gandalf's preferred tactics involve inspiring others to fight rather than engaging personally.
Wonder Woman
Diana of Themyscira was literally crafted for combat. Trained from childhood by the greatest warriors in existence, she has mastered every Amazonian fighting technique. Her reflexes approach superhuman velocity, capable of deflecting automatic gunfire with her indestructible bracelets. Armed with the Lasso of Truth, indestructible sword, and shield, she has fought toe-to-toe with Superman himself and emerged victorious. The Pentagon's classified assessments rate her combat efficiency at levels previously thought mythological. Where Gandalf inspires armies, Diana IS an army.
